Gadeno Pizza & Steak

Any travel wouldn't be complete without having a try of local cuisines & randomly trying some infamous food spots around the place & get lost with the tastiest food offerings that your taste buds will surely gets hooked up with.

Gardeno Pizza & Steak is one humble place I can recommend located at Nagoya Hill in Batam, Indonesia. Not really sure is its a chain of restaurants here but the foods are definitely worth a try. They offer simple & clean cut menu ranging from rice, pasta & steak options for everyone to enjoy.

It comes with a spacious area & numerous staff to attend your needs. Quite surprised though that it's a free smoking area inside the restaurant & having an English speaking staff will be quite challenging. But over-all experience in terms of food quality, customer service level & budget wise, this place is a must-try food haven & enjoy more to life through good food.

Novotel Batam Indonesia

Novotel Batam Indonesia is a place worth staying & a value for money hotel. Everyone would love to have a convenient & affordable staycation and for that Novotel is one place I would recommend to all wanderlast souls out there.

We were supposed to have our stay at Turi Beach in Batam but due to some time constraints, we had some last minute hotel booking via Agoda.com & bumped into this hotel with good offers in terms of their room price & excellent review from the web. We never had a second thought to spent a night in Indonesia here.

Arriving at around 9AM, we were advised of the early check in by 11AM, so we headed our way to their cafe to grab a cup of coffee. Next thing we did was to stroll around the hotel vicinity & guess what, we had some great Indonesia lunch & heavenly massage for the hitel location is strategically located near commercial & tourist spots area.

Upon check-in, I am personally impressed the hotel's interior, service & over-all experience. I can definitely say this hotel made a good impression considering all the hotels I've been to in Asia.

So the next time you decide to take a relaxing weeked getaway to Batam, head your way up to Novotel Batam Indonesia & experience more of what it can offer you.

USS Halloween Horror Nights 2013

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Singapore is one of the most anticipated year end event in the island of Singapore. Imagine the whole theme park to be totally transformed into some kind of frightening & nerve wrecking designs & architectural genius all in one purpose- to let you scream and feel the spirit of halloween night.

I got lucky to be with bunch of outgoing colleagues from Starhub who where all ready to yell out of their lungs & try all the horror booth without hesitation at all.

Halloween Horror Nights event highlight including their much awaited Haunted Attractions: Adrift,
Songs of Death, House No. 13 Possessions, Attack of Vampires, Convention of Curses & Forbidden Forest.

Ticket prices range from $68 (General Admission) & $60 (Early Bird Rate).
But if you don't have money issue, then better purchase the VIP express ticket as you will expect long qeue especially to those who don't have talent with patience.  Over-all experience was superb even though the ticket was a little pricey to be honest. But if you're up to the experience and more memories to cherish, this event is definitely a must try.

Also watch out for my video blog entry for this USS Halloween Horror Night 2013 experience.

Bali Tropikal Spa

Any travel escapade wouldn't be complete without having a soothing & refreshing whole body massage unique in a country of your visit. Considering the high cost of typical body massage in Singapore, most of us will go hunting for the best massage place and good enough I found one in Batam, Indonesia.

Tropikal Body Massage is strategically located righy in front of Novotel Batam Hotel. The place is just a walking distance away from the hotel main entrance. We were lucky enough to find this massage haven after having a satisfying Indonesian Lunch in a nearby restaurant.

We came in and treated first class with staff. Offered with some hot tea, we were given the massage manual to quick view of their service offer. We were stuck on choosing between the Tropical Balinese or Javanese Massage. We ended up trying the Balinese massage for a price of
RP 268,000 upon recommendation of the receptionist. It is a combination of aromatherapy with the choice of Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Grapefruit or Eucalyptus 100% Essential Oil.

A DAY IN THAILAND

Imagine to be in a place for a day leaving all your worries & just simply enjoy the day of travelling and conquering the busy streets of Bangkok. I was lucky enough to experience this unplanned journey when I visited Cambodia & for some reasons I just decided to be here before heading back to Singapore.

I wasn't able to catch my flight in Phnom Penh International Airport from Siam Reap so my only choice was to travel 6 hours by land to Thailand from Siam Reap via Poipet- Aranya Prathet border crossing. It seemed to be forever travelling not until I reached Thailand where I realised it was indeed worth a travel experience.

Thailand never fails to impress me with what their city can offer to all the tourists. From their genuine smile, luscious Pad Thai, quick street market shopping & simply going around Siam Centre will be one great experience for everyone.

Travel is rebellion in its purest form... We follow our heart. We free ourselves of labels. We lose control willingly. We trade a role for reality. We love the unfamiliar. We trust strangers. We only own what we carry. We search for better questions., not answers. We truly graduate. We, sometimes, never choose to come back.

CAMBODIA VS. THAILAND VIDEO BLOG 2013

Travelling in two countries in one itinerary will always be an awesome journey to experience. I went to Cambodia last October and booked my flight a night before my flight. I got a big check off my bucket list when I finally visited the majestic Angkor Wat. After all the great food & temple hopping experience in Cambodia, one unexpected surprise changed my route going to Bangkok, Thailand instead of coming back to Singapore. A long land travel from Cambodian boundary on a flooded highway to reach the Kingdom of Thailand & spent an afternoon loitering around Siam Centre in Bangkok before heading home was one big memorable experience I will cherish forever.

My next travel itinerary will be Hongkong & Macau so watch out for more video blogs soon as I'm planning to document nightlife in Lang Kwai Fong & bungee jump one of a kind experience in Macau Tower.

TOP 10 MUST-KNOW IN CAMBODIA

Explore CAMBODIA with me!
Cambodia known as the Kingdom of Cambodia is popular for the monumental temple of Angkor Wat.
Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River, the provincial capital of SIam Reap City serves as the gateway to the millennium-old ruins of the Angkorian-era Khmer Empire.

Designated a World heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park, encompasses dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Ta Prohm and the legendary Angkor Wat whose artistic and archaeological significance and visual impact put it in a class with the Pyramids, Machu Pichu and the Taj Mahal.

Siem Reap town is where you will probably stay during your visit. The area has been receiving foreign visitors to the temples for more than 120 years. The town is actually a cluster of old villages, which originally developed around individual pagodas, and was later overlain with a French colonial-era centre. Siem Reap offers a wide range of hotels, including several 4 and 5- star hotels, dozens of mid- range places and plenty of budget guesthouses, as well as an amazing variety of restaurants, lots of shopping opportunities and a vibrant nightlife.

Often missed are the many opportunities to experience traditional Cambodia: boat trips on the great Tonle Sap Lake to villages and the bird sanctuary, craft shops and silk farms, road tours through rice-paddy countryside to distant temples and beyond...

ANGKOR WAT

There are dozens of temple ruins in the Siem Reap area, many if the most significant within the Angkor Archaeological Park just north of the city, others further afield. The temples vary in importance, interest
and condition and are spread over a large area, often kilometres  apart. In order to get the most of your temple visit, it is best to prepare at least a preliminary itinerary.

Any itinerary should include the legendary Angkor Wat & Bayon. These two temple ruins offer the most spectacular and unique examples of Angkorian art and as architecture. On the road trip to Bayon, you will also see the South Gate of Angkor Thom and other minor ruins. As it is within walking distance of Bayon, even the briefest visit can usually include central Angkor Thom with its artistically interesting terraces and massive "temple-mountains," Baphuon and Phimeanakas.

Bangkok Pad Thai Restaurant

Everyone loves Thai food especially when its authentic, fresh & eating right from the city where it originated. Listed at No. 5 on World's most delicious food, this stir fried rice noodle dish is a must- try in Bangkok. It is commonly served as a street food & at casual local eateries in Thailand. So for all the Pad Thai lovers out there, here's one secret restaurant I discovered in Thailand where they offer one of the best Pad Thai I have ever tasted so far.

Nando's Restoran

Finally I had a taste of this talked about Nando's Restoran in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. They actually do have an outlet here in Singapore but comparing SGD to RM price range, I bet you would prefer to try it in Malaysia. What makes Nando's Restoran special is that their chickens are marinated for 24 hours in its secret sauce until the flavour goes right through the bone. They're then flame-grilled and basted in your choice of Nando's Peri- Peri sauce. The result is ultimate perfection.

The have this what you call as the PERI-Ometer where you can choose your heat (spice level) before you eat. This varies from Lemon & Herb, Mild, Hot & Extra Hot Peri-Peri. They also have platters to share that is perfect for groups - sharing is what Nando's is all about (Meal, Full & Jumbo Platter). You can also make it as meal with their various sides options (chips, coleslaw, potato wedges, corn-on-the-cob, garlic bread, spicy rice & mediterranean rice & grilled vegetables).

With it's great customer service, relaxed ambience & practical price range, you should have a try of Nando's Restoran when you visit JB Sentral. We spent a total of RM 160.00 not bad for 4 person sharing (around $16/head).

Baphuon Temple Cambodia

Cambodia has a special place in my heart. I went here due to some personal dilemmas that I needed to escape out of Singapore. For travelling never fails to refresh my mind & give me new ideas in liffe. Anyhow, here's the third part of my Cambodia trip last month. This blog post is all about my half day tour to what I call "Temple Run" popularly known as the Baphuon Temple.

Angkor Thom: Large temple- mountain in Angkor Thom. Recently re-opened after an extensive and troubled restoration. The project began in the early 1970s with archaeologist dismantling much it, but abandoned in 1975 due ti war. The records were lost during the war years, leaving an enormous rock jigsaw puzzle. The restoration was restarted in the 1990s and the temple finally reopened just last year. Note the unique animal carvings at the walkway entrance. Similar carvings are visible on West Mebon. Also note the impressively large reclining Buddha on the west side, which was added to the temple in the 16th century.

Ta Prohm Angkor Cambodia

Ta Prohm is a sprawling monasteric complex that is only partially cleared of jungle over-growth. Intentionally left partially unrestored, massive fig & silk- cotton tress grow from the towers and corridors offering a "jungle atmosphere" and some of the best "tree-in-temple" photo opportunities at Angkor. Unfortunately, massive numbers of visitors and the recent installation of wooden walkways are detracting some from the "jungle atmosphere."

Ta Phrom is still well worth an extended exploration of its dark corridors and open plazas. This temple was one of Jayavarman VII's first major temple projects. Ta Prohm was dedicated to his mother. (Preah Khan, built shortly after Ta Prohm in the same general style, was dedicated to Jayavarman VII's father.) Ta Prohm was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery and was enormously wealthy in its time, boasting of control over 3000 villages, thousnads of support staff and vast stores of jewels and gold. Of the monastic complex style temples, Ta Prohm is a superior exmaple and should e included in almost any temple itinerary.

Angkor Wat Cambodia

This is one big check for the things I need to do before I die. To be in Cambodia & witness Angkor Wat right with your naked eyes is such a fulfilling dream anyone can experience. Considered to be world's largest religious monument, Angkor Wat is a must see place & definitely worth visiting for. In this blog post, I will share more details of my travel experience, preparation, budget & itineraries to help everyone make the best of your Cambodia's infamous Angkor Wat one of a kind experience. Here we go.

Angkor literally means "Capital City" or "Holy City". In its modern usage, "Angkor" has come to refer to the capital city of the Khmer Empire that existed in the area of Cambodia. It represents the pinnacle of the ancient Khmer architecture, art and civilisation.

There are dozens of temple ruins in the Siam Reap area, many of the most significant within the Angkor Archaeological Park just north of the city, others further afield. The temples vary in importance, interest & condition and are spread over a large area, often kilometres apart. Your itinerary should depend largely on the length of your visit and your level of interest, though some ruins are must-sees. Any itinerary should definitely include the legendary Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking. It is a massive three tiered pyramid crowned by five lotus-like towers rising 65 metres from ground level. Angkor Wat is the centerpiece of any visit to the temples of Angkor.

War Remnants Museum Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City: War Remnants. This place is all about the Old Saigon's downtown District 1 and gives a glimpse into the former capital's wartime past through the atmospheric stroll in War Remnant Museum.

Walk north up Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street to Vo Van Tan Street and turn left to fins at No. 28 the War Remnants Museum. (Bao Tang Chung Tich Chien Tranh; 28 Vo Van Tan Street; tel: 08-3930 2112; daily 7.30AM-noon, 1:30- 5PM; charge), set in the former headquarters of the US Information Services. You need a strong stomach as the museum comes to grips with the nastier aspects of Vietnam's recent history, such as human embryos in jars & pictures of deformed children, depicting the effectiveness of the defoliant Agent Orange, gory photographs of war mutilations and a guillotine used for decapitating agitators of the 1920s riot.

One of the exhibition halls, entitled REQUIEM, holds works of photographers from many countries who died in war conflicts in Indochina. Outside in the forecourt, there is an impressive array of military hardware, including tanks, a helicopter and a fighter jet. Although, a visit here is likely to be distressing, it is a sobering reminder of the heavy toll of war.

Cu Chi Tunnel Vietnam

The tunnels of Cu Chi was the holy revolutionary base of Military Region Committee Saigon-Gia Dinh Command of Cu Chi District Party Committee and all Cu Chi People, where was also a versatile battle formation to front enemy and to contribute significantly to task of enemy fighting and national unity.

Located about 70 km (44 miles) to the northwest of HCMC, the Cu Chi tunnels are one of Vietnam's proudest patriotic shrines and achievements during the Vietnam War. From these hiding places, Viet Cong were able to spring devastating surprise attacks on their enemies. In fact, by the mid- 1960's, it is believed that over 200 km (124 miles) of tunnels laced the region around Cu Chi. The tunnels run up to 10m (33 ft) deep, each with a breadth of between 0.5 to 1m (11/2 to 3ft), and stacked up to three levels.  The top tier could support the weight of a 50-tonne tank, with the middle layer, could withstand moderate mortar attacks. The lowest level will virtually impregnable. Located at the end of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and straddling both Highway 1 and the Saigon River, the tunnels were of vital strategic importance.

In coming to Ho Chi Minh city, visit Cu Chi Underground Tunnel, to understand how was the long - during fight of hardship, to properly comprehended the profound aspiration: loving of peace, independent, happy and warm well-fed permanently.

FOOD: Cafe Fresco

Vietnam has seen an explosion of new coffee shops oriented towards foreign visitors & affluent locals in the last few years. Most of the action in this new cafe scene is in HCMC, with significant development  also in Hanoi. That being said, coffee shop like Cafe Alfresco should certainly not be ignored.

Located in walking distance from Saigon Square & frequented by locals, this cosy safe has lots of sitting nooks surrounded by very relaxing ambience perfect for enjoying that cup of coffee. Service might be slow but friendly. Cafe Fresco has a menu that includes western favourites like burgers, pasta & pizza. There's also free wifi. Make sure to try this once you visit HCMC.
